a historic museum essays The Greensboro Historical Museum is located downtown Greensboro in a building dating back to the turn of the century (1892). The Museum was not founded until 1924. The permanent collection of the museum includes costumes, toys, textiles, decorative arts, and militaria. The Greensboro Historical Museum reflects the local history of Piedmont North Carolina. It also reflects the history of the American Civil War. I decided to go and visit Greensboro Historical Museum because I thought it was a place in which I could learn some more about American history. Before getting there I had a picture on my mind of what the museum was going to look like and the exhibits I was expecting to see. But it turned out to be a completely different thing from the preconception I had. The turn out was not bad just different from my expectations. When I got there a very charming old lady greeted me to the museum. She did not hesitate to ask me where I was from. She made some suggestions of what kind of path I should follow in the museum. I asked her if there were any guides but to my surprise there were no guides and no tape recorders available either. So I followed her instructions on where to go first. I went to the second floor, which exhibits a lot of the history of the Piedmont specially Greensboro and other collections. Before I mentioned some of the things I saw in this area of the museum, I got to mention that this area really depressed me and made me think oh God... This is going to be boring. I saw there an exhibit called Belle Meade Historic Room Interiors. Which basically its name describes the exhibit well. From what I read this was a Greensboro residence built in 1867 and it was razed 1950. Since it was raced this exhibit is a recreation of the original house. It showed the dining room, Meade parlor, etc. It looked very nice but again for me it did not make any sense. This floor also had an exhibit that...

Another cause that can justify reviewing if there are any departmental communication problems is low motivation, productivity and poor business performance. If staff does not receive the information they require or do not feel appreciated, valued and kept informed they might not go the ââ¬Ëextra mileââ¬â¢ for their employer. They might feel frustrated and canââ¬â¢t see the point of what they are doing and this in turn leads to poor performance. Open and regular disagreements between managers and the team, such as open conflict or rejected appraisals, are also a clear sign of communication issues and should be looked into. But suspecting that a departmental issue is down to poor communication is not sufficient to bring improvement about. Once you suspect that there are communication problems how do you find out for sure enabling you to target them? A good method of identifying if there are communication problems is to talk to the involved parties and try to gain an understanding about their opinion. Why do they think the department underperforms? Do they feel they get all the information and feedback they need to do the job? What would they change if they could? Are conversations kept courteous and respectful and show trust or are they sharp and without showing signs of a good relationship. Body language should also be observed to identify if both parties listen to each other and communicate effectively or if information is not taken in and heard or offered effectively. For example, a manager reassigned an employeeââ¬â¢s task to the employeeââ¬â¢s co-worker but failed to communicate the reassignment to the employee. This may cause the employee to feel slighted, which can transform into animosity among the two employees and the manager. Failing to communicate in the workplace may cause employees to make incorrect assumptions and believe workplace gossip. Poor communication in the workplace not only causes conflict but decreases productivity and employee morale.

Frankenstein Essay
Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, encompasses every definition of a tragic hero. A tragic hero is not the normal hero a reader always envisions, but rather a character that causes suffering to others. This is shown through Victor Frankenstein himself in this novel. Victor Frankenstein would be classified as a tragic hero in this novel because of his choice to ââ¬Å"play Godâ⬠. This is shown through him creating the Creature. He knew that this could be dangerous, but he continued to work as if nothing could go wrong for over two sleepless years. He assembled the Creature, hoping that it would be able to help humankind, and be his friend when no one else would. Victor was terrified of the Creature. ââ¬Å"I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being that I had created, I rushed out of the room, and continued a long time traversing my bed-chamber, unable to compose my mind to sleepâ⬠(30). This quote shows how horrific he perceived the ââ¬Å"monsterâ⬠he had just created. Victor begins to wonder why he had spent so much time creating the Creature, and why he had thought that he would help mankind. Although Victor saw the Creature as a monster, the Creature wanted nothing more than to be loved and wanted by his creator. When the Creature was denied the love and affection he so longed, he did become a killing machine. ââ¬Å" Character, English-language films, At that moment he sees a gigantic figure illuminated by a bolt of lightningâ⬠¦ and he instinctively realizes that that it was the Creature who killed his brother Williamâ⬠(Kelley). After the death of William and Justine, and the woman accused of killing William and was sentenced to death for it, the Frankenstein family went on a vacation to the mountains, where Victor runs into the Creature. The Creature describes himself as ââ¬Å"miserable beyond all living thingsâ⬠, and that misery made him a friend. The monster makes a request of Victor to listen to his story and was hopeful that Victor will understand his position. The Creature requests that Victor make him a mate, and if he does, he will run away with her and never return. Victor agrees to construct a mate for Creature, but abandons this in the middle of the project. This c ould show how much of a tragic hero that Victor really is. Since he abandoned the female monster, the original creature kills his best friend, Henry, and his wife, Elizabeth. If Victor Frankenstein had only cared more about the Creature and mankind other than himrself, there might have been a happy ending to the novel. But since this was not true, the novel ended in tragedy, further explaining the role Victor Frankenstein had on the plot as a tragic hero.

Daniel Castellanos THE2000 Ms Janet Roney 12/1/12 The Zoo Story Edward Albeeââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Zoo Storyâ⬠is a one act play that shows what alienation and loneliness can drive a man to do. It is a unique story in the sense that you almost feel as though you are reading in on a social experiment. I consider it is an experiment because of how the reactions between the two characters Peter and Jerry lead up to an intense and life affecting climax between the two. The idea of The Zoo Story is about a middle class man with a wife and two daughters named peter who you can say is quite receptive to what life has given him so far.However, you also have a man named jerry who is just about the opposite. Jerry is unfortunately friendless and not to happy with what life has brought to his plate. One day these two characters have a date with destiny on a New York City park bench. As Peter is minding to himself Jerry comes along and tries to befriend him. The socialization between the two doesnââ¬â¢t go as planned for Jerry. Nevertheless, Jerry walked into that conversation with another plan. It was one that included his own death.Eventually, it ends up into a confrontation between the two where Jerry is punching thus forcing Peter into defending himself. Jerry then pulls out a knife and tosses it towards Peter forcing his hand. In self defense, Peter picks up the knife and holds it up which then leads to Jerry charging towards the knife and thus murdering himself. Peter reactively says ââ¬Å"Oh my Godâ⬠whereas then with Jerryââ¬â¢s last breath he says ââ¬Å"Ohâ⬠¦Myâ⬠¦ God is a combination of scornful mimicry and supplicationâ⬠. His last words give you an insight on what this novels idea could be.After reading, I started to relate to how Aristotleââ¬â¢s theory on Plot matches to ââ¬Å"The Zoo Storyâ⬠. When you think of plot you would consider the arraignment of events such as rising action and climax. Now when you start to stick to gether the structural plots in this story you would begin with the exposition where Peter is sitting on the park bench and soon then enters Jerry. The rising action would have to be the conversation they both shared leading up until the moment Jerry spits and then punches Peter. Of course, the climax is the scene when Jerry then tosses the knife on the floor and hen forces Peter to choose between leaving or quite possibly killing a man with his own weapon. The falling action is when Jerry runs into the blade consequently killing him. Therefore, leading to the resolution which is the last words Jerry is able to say to Peter after his initial reaction to his death. The idea of characters would mainly consist of the protagonist and the antagonist. In The Zoo Story it puts you in the life of Jerry who, to some, would come off as the antagonist however to me I see him as the protagonist.It is clear that Jerry is a man who is lonely and desperate to make a friend. It starts with Jerry try ing to make an effort to communicate with Peter, yet he doesnââ¬â¢t seem all interested. As each new topic Jerry comes up with is diminished it gives me the feeling that all Jerry is trying to do is socialize with another human being. The theme of a play is usually the reason why the playwright would write the play. The theme we come across in this play is Loneliness.

Binary form
Binary form is one of two kinds of music. It normally has two parts that are complementary to each other usually signified by AB. There are four different types of binary form. These forms are known as sectional, continuous, symmetrical, and asymmetrical. In sectional binary form, the first section (A) will end on the tonic triad. If it is continuous binary form, then it will end on anything but the tonic triad in the first part (A). In symmetrical binary form, the first part of the form (A) will go back and forth between the tonic chord and the dominant chord. In the second part of symmetrical binary form, it will gradually find its way back to the tonic chord. Therefore making it very even on both sides of the form. However, in asymmetrical binary form, the second part (B) is commonly made longer than the first by dividing the second part (B) into two sections. The first sub section of the second part (B), starts on the dominant chord and gradually mutates until! it cadences in a related key. The second subsection of the second part (B), starts on the tonic chord but does not relate melodically to the first part (A). Binary form is most commonly found in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries during the Classical and some of the Baroque period (Wolf 95). Ternary is the second kind of the two types of music. It normally has three parts that are typically labeled ABA. The theory behind this structure is an idea of statement contrast return (Kotska and Payne 338). Knowin When to Hold em Now Iââ¬â¢ll be the first to admit I donââ¬â¢t know a thing about poker. If Kenny Rogers hadnââ¬â¢t sung ââ¬Å"The Gamblerâ⬠, I wouldnââ¬â¢t even know about holdinââ¬â¢ and foldinââ¬â¢. But one thing I do know, thereââ¬â¢s a time to submit my works and thereââ¬â¢s a time to ââ¬Å"holdâ⬠ââ¬Ëem. And I know that because I came close to lettinââ¬â¢ go at the wrong time. Twenty and excited about entering a radio stationââ¬â¢s poetry contest, I rushed through the rules, eager to start writing. All night I lost myself in the narrator, an elderly lady on her porch reliving memories. I chuckled watching the children grow from playing to courting on the porch, I cried seeing the now-empty porch, and rejoiced picturing future reunions on the porch. The next morning, ready to mail my entry, I read the rules again and froze. Iââ¬â¢d overlooked ââ¬Å"Whether or not your poem wins, it will become the property of the radio station.â⬠Whoa! With little chance of winning, I could never submit my poem anywhere else or use it myself? Disappointed, I slipped it in a drawer where it stayed for 15 years until I resigned as college professor to enter full time the field of writing and speaking. For my first tour, I retyped the poem on a more modern typewriter and had 100 copies made on plain white paper.à The first evening, in costume as story teller, I quoted a bit of the poem and following as myself, mentioned it would be available afterward. Iââ¬â¢d laid out 25 copies with a sign, ââ¬Å"Poems: Donation of any sizeâ⬠and while greeting folks heard a yell, ââ¬Å"Go get more poems!â⬠Already all 25 had sold! I hurriedly brought in 25 more only to hear in another few minutes, ââ¬Å"Go get the rest of the poems!â⬠Except for two to use for copying along the way, all had sold. It was the same each place on the two-week tour. Back home I chose a ream of quality buff-colored faux parchment paper and learned if Iââ¬â¢d wait a few days until the store used dark brown ink, the printing could be done commercially for less money. From then on, whether driving or being flown Iââ¬â¢ve taken the poems, although Folks want to take something home from an event but not everyone can buy our books or DVDââ¬â¢s. Smaller printed or craft items make buying possible for those who canââ¬â¢t and lagniappe for those who can. (Lagniappe [lanââ¬â¢ yap], an oft-used term here in Southeastern Louisiana meaning ââ¬Å"a little something extraâ⬠.) If Iââ¬â¢d entered that early contest and won, Iââ¬â¢d have received eight copies of a cheap magazine with few readers. BUT, Glad I decided ââ¬Å"Noâ⬠to ââ¬Å"soldâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Yesâ⬠to ââ¬Å"holdâ⬠!
